Canada May Need Thousands More Customs Officers

I like this take on the Galloway decision. If Canada,(or any country for that matter) is going to start the habit of banning anyone who holds different views in order to censor them, then they better start hiring thousands more Customs officers LOL, Too true!

British MP George Galloway is no more a threat to Canada’s national security than was deported racist Ernst Zundel.

If Canada is going to bar all prominent visitors who are obnoxious, or who spout political views we don’t agree with, then we had better start hiring thousands more customs personnel LINK

Obama’s Middle East Plan~American Soldiers~ Devil in the Details?

Often the Devil is in the Details….

I read quite a lot of news articles to stay abreast of the Middle East conflict. Often I find little “comments” within a long article that may be missed if you read too quickly. One such “snippet” recently caught my eye whilst reading a report from the Times Online. The article itself focused on the upcoming G20 conference and touched on Obamas middle East plans for peace. Nothing too important, except towards the end when I read this little bit below:

(see what jumps out at ya)
HINT: I bolded it LOL

A group of hard-nosed foreign policy realists in Washington last autumn produced a “bipartisan statement on US Middle East peacemaking” that was handed to Obama by his senior economic adviser Paul Volcker, a signatory. The wise men called for an “intense American mediation in pursuit of a two-state solution . . . a more pragmatic approach to Hamas” and American command of a multinational force to keep the peace between Israel and Palestine. George Mitchell, Obama’s Middle East envoy (who acted as an honest broker in Northern Ireland), and General Jim Jones, his national security adviser, are said to be highly sympathetic.

Say WHAT??? America is going to have boots on the ground to “help” police the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?????? God I hope not, this is JUST not what America needs, to stick itself into this situation where Israel will then be controlling things behind the scenes.

No matter how careful or good intentioned America may be on this, Israel will surely create (or manufacture!!) situations that will cause America to fall out with Palestinians and Arabs. All the while pushing America towards war with Iran! It’s what Israel does best, control things. They would like nothing better then to create some situation, by their own hands that they “think” will counter all the anti-Israeli sentiment that exists now due to their horrific immoral and illegal genocide in Gaza. What better way to recover and divert attention than to create another conflict. One that puts Israel and America on the same page!!!

Let’s Just imagine some American soldiers get shot and killed, and Israel says it’s HAMAS or some “evil” Palestinian, when in fact it is some elaborate Israeli plan to turn America away from caring about Palestine and get Israel right back in control of America’s foreign policy in the Middle East. It’s not past Israel to attempt this, they have done it before. Let us remember the USS Liberty, Israel murdered all those Americans in an attempt to force the US into war.If Israel can be placed in an opportunistic situation like that agian, where they can make “Arabs” or “Palestinians” appear evil or un-trustworthy, then they are home free. Then America’s right wing nutjobs will take to the airwaves and build a story that becomes “fact” because it is repeated enough and echoed.

I would appeal to the progressive left in America that is still not controlled by the Jewish Lobby, to hold Obama accountable and say “No we won’t” send soldiers to Israel or Palestine!

Food for Thought!

Israel Refuses to Give Information on Cluster Bombs in Lebanon~ AGAIN

UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon calls for Israel to provide detailed maps of the location of cluster bombs in Lebanon. Israel has been asked to provide this information on numerous occasions and has failed to provide it.

Williams: Israel Should Provide Maps Regarding Cluster Bombs

United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Michael Williams said that Israel has to provide detailed maps indicating the location of cluster bombs in south Lebanon. He pointed that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have requested from Israel to provide such detailed maps more than once. He added that United Nations Security Council resolution 1701 has not been fully implemented.

Following a tour of the southern city of Tyre on Friday in which he met with the city’s municipal head and members, Williams said the U.N. has continuously worked on cleansing the south of land mines and cluster bombs.

“Work must continue, and Israel must provide maps showing the location of such bombs. The U.N. and the UNIFIL have called on Israel more than once to make these maps available,” Williams said.

He expressed his relief that Lebanon is enjoying calm adding: “there is a lot of work ahead that we have to do, particularly in returning the Ghajjar village and the Shebaa Farms (back to Lebanon)…ending the violation of Lebanese airspace that occurs daily.”

“This issue is always on our mind and under discussion, we are working with our colleagues at the U.N. to satisfy (Palestinian) needs without ignoring the greater goal of establishing the Palestinian state,” Williams said after being briefed by Lebanese officials on the Palestinians’ suffering.

Israel Shunned by Everyone Important in Washington

Ever feel like you’re being shunned? Ever feel like you are invisible? Ever feel like you weren’t told about the secret handshake? Ever feel like you weren’t invited to the party?

Well that’s exactly what Israel’s Chief of Staff feels like after coming to America. It looks like the bloom is off the rose for Israel, it’s about time. Obama may actually earn my respect one day if he keeps putting Israel in it’s place, e.g. out of American politics.

Here ya go, well worth a read, and try not to laugh too hard:)

Israel’s visiting chief of staff finds doors closed
in Obama’s Washington

WASHINGTON — Last year, Israeli Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi had no problem setting up meetings with top officials in the U.S. government.

On his current trip to Washington, Ashkenazi sought to meet the administration of President Barack Obama, but most officials were unavailable.

Diplomatic sources said Ashkenazi failed to obtain access to any Cabinet member, including Defense Secretary Robert Gates. The Israeli military chief, who sought to discuss the Iranian nuclear threat, won’t even meet his counterpart, Adm. Michael Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The administration is sending a very clear message to Israel, and this is we want to talk about Palestine and not Iran,” a diplomat who has been following U.S.-Israel relations said.

On March 12, Ashkenazi left for a five-day visit to the United States meant to lobby the Obama administration to abandon the planned U.S. dialogue with Iran. Ashkenazi, scheduled to meet with the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, (AIPAC the cancer in American Politics!!!!)was expected to have brought new Israeli intelligence on Iran’s nuclear weapons and missile programs.

But the diplomatic sources said the administration made it clear that nobody in a policy-making position was available to sit with Ashkenazi. (are you laughing yet???) This included the president, Vice President Joseph Biden, Gates, National Intelligence director Dennis Blair or Mullen.

“The Obama administration believes that Israel is as much or more of a problem as it is an ally, at least until Israel’s disagreements with its neighbors are resolved,” former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, said.
Bolton envisioned that the White House would pressure Israel
to legitimize Hamas and Hizbullah. At the same time, he said, Obama would continue to woo Iran.

Already, economic and diplomatic advisers to Obama have urged the president to launch a U.S. dialogue with Hamas. The US/Middle East Project, which includes such Obama supporters as former Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Hagel, was said to have elicited a promise from Obama to listen to any proposals made by Hamas.

The diplomatic sources said the White House and the senior echelon of the Obama administration have refused a dialogue with Israel on the Iranian threat. (THANK GOD FOR THAT!!) They said Ms. Clinton, during her visit to Israel, was largely silent during briefings by Israeli intelligence on Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.

“The Israeli government and military have been alarmed by the rapid and dramatic reversal in the U.S. policy toward Iran,” the source said. “This reversal took place without any consultation with Israel, Gulf Arab countries or even Congress.” (Ok you must be laughing by now, Imagine, how dare the USA makes it’s own decisions and policy!! Without “informing Israel and getting permission. Perhaps AIPAC should have left Freeman alone, payback is a bitch!)

But Obama and his top aides appear uninterested in hearing Israel’s position. The sources said a key aim of Ashkenazi was to urge the administration to release weapons and systems long sought by Israel in the area of aerial refueling, air-to-ground weapons, sensors as well as the F-22 fighter-jet.

“Ashkenazi sees this U.S. refusal as what has been undermining Israeli deterrence toward Iran and boosting the confidence of the Teheran regime,” the source said. “The mullahs in regime have concluded that America has dropped the military option and won’t allow such an option to Israel.” (HASBARA anyone???)

FAILURE~Israeli-Palestinian Prisoner Exchange BREAKDOWN

Captured IDF soldier Gilad Shalit won’t be going home any time soon!!

This is brilliant negotiations on the part of HAMAS I must say. Imagine Israel’s moronic position of not allowing the Palestinian prisoners to go home after they are released. What’s the point of being released if you can’t go home. Screw Israel, I’m happy HAMAS won’t cave in to this outrageous demand. After all, I’m sure Shalit will get to go home, why not the Palestinian prisoners, otherwise it’s not a real release as they will have no freedom.

The best bit is this is causing some major problems for Israel as the young people now are not wanting to join up to the IDF for fear of them being captured and the Israeli government not getting them back. I made a post about this where the Israeli teenagers said this:

A group of Israeli teenagers have sent Prime Minister Ehud Olmert a letter warning that his government’s failure to secure the release of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit has made enlisting for military service more difficult for them.

“We find our enlisting in the IDF much more difficult knowing that Gilad Shalit has been forsaken in captivity and not returned to his parents,”

“When he was abducted, he was a kid, like us,” they added. “Most of us are high school students, and we look forward to joining the army and serving our country. As future soldiers, we would like to be certain that if one of us is taken captive, the government will do whatever it takes to bring him back.”

And now today’s news, the deal fails and notice the last paragraph From the Telegraph today:

Israel-Hamas prisoner swap deal collapses

A prisoner swap deal between Israel and Hamas appears to have collapsed, dashing hopes among both Israelis and Palestinians.

The goal of the negotiations, moderated by Egypt, were to clinch an agreement for the release of Cpl Gilad Shalit – an Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian militants and smuggled into Gaza almost three years ago – in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

The talks, stepped up in recent weeks, were seen as a last-ditch effort by the outgoing Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert to secure a deal while he was still in power.

Cpl Shalit’s family, which recently moved into a protest tent next to the prime minister’s official residence to step up pressure for a deal, fears the incoming government of the hardline prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu will be less amenable to agreeing to the terms of a prisoner exchange.

Both sides blamed each other for deadlock in the talks.

Mr Olmert’s office said that Hamas had made new demands at the eleventh hour despite what they termed as Israel’s “generous proposals”.

“It became clear during the discussions that Hamas had hardened its position, reneged on understandings that had been formulated over the past year and raised extreme demands,” said a statement issued by Mr Olmert’s office, after two senior envoys returned on Monday night from talks in Cairo.

Hamas officials rebuffed the criticism, saying it was Israel that had failed to deliver.

“As soon as there is a serious offer from Israel, we will deal with it,” said Ossama Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Beirut.

Israeli media said that the key sticking point is a demand by Israel that some of the Palestinian prisoners, once released, would not be allowed to return to their homes in the West Bank and instead would be deported either to Gaza or neighbouring Arab countries.

And in Israel, a country where most Jewish young men and women are conscripted into the army, the story of Cpl Shalit, who turned 22 in captivity, has become something of a national cause.

This one captured prisoner is causing some serious trouble for Israel and gives HAMAS one huge bargaining chip. Good for them! When Israel agrees that ALL Palestinian prisoners can go home, then so can Shalit! Till then, Shalit better get comfortable living in Palestine.

Obama Urged to Talk to HAMAS

Well, I’ve seen this before. Irish Republicans will recognise this tactic very well. Renounce violence and come into politics. The USA really is modelling the ME peace process after the NI peace process to quite a degree so far I must say. Hamas needs to make sure they don’t allow FATAH to give everything away and control all the negotiations. We faced much the same here when the US and England attempted to make deals with the soft Nationalist party the SDLP, our version of FATAH. Not until they learned the hard way, after many more ended ceasefires by the IRA, that they had to talk to Sinn Fein, who had a huge elected mandate (Like HAMAS) Only then, did they ever get anywhere. A peace process is just that, a “process” and a very LONG process at that! Our war with England has lasted for hundreds of years, and the Peace Process only started 13 years ago after 30 years of a well targeted war by the IRA. This, after many failed attemtps, and the actual decommissioning of weapons dumps only just ended this many years later. Yet even today we still have problems, like I said, it’s a process………

Barack Obama adviser urges talks with Hamas

Paul Volcker, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, has urged him to break with US policy and open talks with Hamas in order to test the militant group’s willingness to join a unified Palestinian government.

Mr Volcker, a former Federal Reserve chairman who was picked by the president to head his new economic recovery advisory board, signed a letter with nine other Washington veterans and senior ex-officials urging him to open dialogue.
Other signatories of the letter, delivered to the president days before he took office, include Brent Scowcroft, national security adviser to the first George Bush, and Zbigniew Brzezinski, who performed the same role under Jimmy Carter.
The group is expected to be granted an audience at the White House as early as this week to make their case that lines of communication should be opened with the group

They are likely to make a forceful case given their personal experience of tortuous Middle East negotiations. “I see no reason not to talk to Hamas,” Mr Scowcroft told the Boston Globe. “The main gist is that you need to push hard on the Palestinian peace process. Don’t move it to end of your agenda and say you have too much to do.”

Mr Obama has made peace in the Middle East a central goal of his presidency. Within days of taking office he appointed former senator George Mitchell, a heavy-hitting veteran of the Northern Ireland peace process, as a special envoy to the region.
Some in Washington see a rare opportunity to open talks with Hamas now that the group is discussing a unity government with Fatah, the more moderate Palestinian faction. Hamas was elected to power in Gaza in 2007 and has been shunned by the US for its refusal to renounce violence or recognize Israel’s legitimacy.

Only HAMAS will know if it is the right time for political negotiations. Only HAMAS will know during any negotiations if they have enough concessions to go forward politically. In Ireland, our people have gone to Gaza and met with both ABBAS and HAMAS in an attempt for them to learn from Sinn Fein and the IRA’s political strategy and negotiations. During this last visit as expected, Israel was not amused and refused to meet with Adams because Adams was talking to HAMAS. Video’s below of interview with Ahmad Yousuf after meeting with Sinn Fein and another very short recent video with Adams on the Middle East conflict vs the Irish conflict.
